Proper Crisps wanted to celebrate their sponsorship of New Zealand’s premier tennis tournament the ASB Classic. The team at Eltezza Studio, who had already designed tennis themed packaging for Proper Crisps, asked me to create an engaging 10 second animation based on the new packaging.

Proper Crisps Package Designs
Let’s Chat – I had a great collaborative meeting with the Eltezza team. We explored what their client wanted to achieve with the animation, spitballed ideas, discussed deliverables and other relevant details.
Armed with this knowledge and having the package designs as a reference I was now ready to put together a storyboard for the animation.
Storyboard
The storyboard helped give the client a clear vision of the video so there’d be no surprises at the end. Once the storyboard was given the thumbs up I was ready to illustrate and build all the assets I needed to complete the animation.
Assets For Animation
Character Rig – I converted the Adobe Illustrator package design of the tennis player into an animation ready character. I used Duik Angela to build a rig for him so he was ready to serve an ace!
Tennis Court – I created the tennis court surface and made it a 3D plane so I could adjust its angle for different shots in the video.
Arena – I illustrated the arena, crowd, bushes and clouds to create a vibrant opening shot. It was great having the packaging as a design guide to work from. Plus I was able to use some of the package elements in the animation, such as the cityscape and umbrellas.
Social Media Friendly Formats
This video was intended for several different social media platforms so I delivered it in three formats – horizontal, square and vertical. I made any adjustments needed so each shot looked great in its different format.
With that done it was ready to deliver to the client!
